Before you even step foot into the room, you should be ready to knock your interview out of the park. Much like preparing for a test in school, knowing what questions to be ready for can make a world of difference. But, that’s not all you’ll need if you want to stand out. At Spark Your Resume, your success is a priority to us–so check our tips below to go the extra mile for your interview.
Conduct Background Research: Research the company's business model, your specific role, the culture, and core values. Indeed and Glassdoor are great to see what current and former employees have to say. If available to you—whether it be via LinkedIn or a Google search— conduct research on the interviewer. This will not only show your curiosity, but spark conversation and may reveal commonalities.
Dress Appropriately: Make sure you look the part for the interview. When in doubt, always show up dressed in business professional attire. It is ALWAYS better to be overdressed than underdressed. This will show the employer that you mean business–and that you are ready to conquer the interview!
Have Questions Prepared: Questions show interest and that you have done thorough research on the company and the position. Asking meaningful questions allows you to gain insight, and the more you know about the company, the more questions you’ll have!
Know Where You’re Going: It’s never a bad idea to know where you’re going and how long it will take for you to get there. Plan ahead using Waze, which will show you estimated times based on traffic patterns. If you’re concerned about traffic, give yourself plenty of cushion time and find a coffee shop nearby you can hang out at until 10 - 15 minutes before your interview. If your interview is online, make sure your internet connection is stable and you’re able to easily login to your video chat account.
